Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the role of differentiation and emotional disclosure in predicting marital happiness among married individuals in Tehran.

Methods and Materials: This descriptive-correlational study involved 380 married men and women selected via convenience sampling from Tehran. Data were collected using the Fordyce Marital Happiness Scale, the Differentiation of Self Inventory-Revised (DSI-R), and the Chaud and Martin Emotional Disclosure Scale. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 27, including Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression tests.

Findings: The results revealed significant positive correlations between differentiation and marital happiness (r = 0.57, p<0.01), and between emotional disclosure and marital happiness (r = 0.48, p<0.01). Multiple regression analysis showed a significant model (F = 120.24, p<0.01), with both differentiation (β = 0.45, p<0.01) and emotional disclosure (β = 0.29, p<0.01) significantly predicting marital happiness.

Conclusion: The findings confirm that differentiation and emotional disclosure play a crucial role in enhancing marital happiness. Strengthening these interpersonal capacities through counseling interventions may improve the overall quality of marital life.
