Exploring the Experiences of Diabetic Patients in Stress Man-agement and Its Impact on Quality of Life: A Phenomenological Study

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the experiences of diabetic patients in managing stress and its impact on their quality of life.
Methods and Materials: This qualitative research was conducted using a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 24 diabetic patients residing in Tehran. Purposive sampling was used, and data were collected until theoretical saturation was achieved. The data were analyzed using NVivo software and content analysis techniques.
Findings: The results showed that stress is a major factor influencing the quality of life of diabetic patients. Patients reported using various strategies, such as exercise, mindfulness, and social support, to manage their stress. Stress was found to have negative effects on both the physical and mental health of patients, particularly in the form of anxiety and depression. Additionally, social support was identified as an effective factor in reducing stress among patients.
Conclusion: Stress management plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of diabetic patients. Utilizing appropriate coping strategies, such as exercise and mindfulness, along with social support, can help reduce stress and improve both physical and mental health. Providing educational and supportive programs for stress management can significantly enhance the quality of life of diabetic patients.
