Objective: The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the motivations and factors influencing the change of risky behaviors in adolescents from the perspective of counselors.
Methods and Materials: This qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to collect data. A total of 23 counselors from Tehran with experience in adolescent counseling participated in the study. Data were analyzed through content analysis using Nvivo software, and theoretical saturation was reached during the process.
Findings: The results revealed that peer influence, family support, academic pressures, psychological factors such as anxiety and depression, and counseling strategies are significant factors affecting the change of risky behaviors in adolescents. Counselors also highlighted barriers such as lack of social support and environmental issues that complicate behavior change. Furthermore, the counselors emphasized the use of cognitive-behavioral methods and family involvement in the process of changing adolescent behaviors.
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that various individual, social, and environmental factors influence the change of risky behaviors in adolescents. A comprehensive and multi-faceted approach, including family and peer support and effective counseling strategies, is needed to reduce risky behaviors in adolescents.
