Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim of fundamental research to compare the level of resilience and mental health in two groups of women with imprisoned and non-imprisoned husbands. The present research method is field and, depending on the subject, questions, and scope of the research, laboratory. The statistical population of the study included 90 women with imprisoned husbands under the coverage of the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee and the Prisoners Support Association and 90 women with non-imprisoned husbands, who were selected through purposive sampling according to the Morgan table. The questionnaires that were considered to collect information from the two groups were: Connor and Davidson questionnaire (CD-RISC) and Goldberg Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ). Both groups were assessed using these questionnaires. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and SPSS-24 software were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the group of women who have imprisoned husbands face many problems and challenges and not only have to shoulder the responsibility of living and raising children and providing for the family alone, but also have to bear the stigma, heavy and negative views of society and various types of gender discrimination. This causes various problems and physical symptoms, disruption in social functioning, anxiety, sleep disorders, depression and mental health disorders and reduces the level of resilience and unsafe relationships. They may also move to distant and unsafe places due to economic problems and to avoid the stigma and concealment of their husband's imprisonment, which will also lead to dangerous consequences and negative outcomes. Prisoner families in society are very vulnerable and are under economic and emotional pressure. Also, controlling and raising children is very difficult and is associated with many problems. Overall, the results of this study showed that the resilience of women with imprisoned husbands is significantly lower than that of women with non-imprisoned husbands.
