Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to design an interpretive model for analyzing unconscious components in artworks and to extract creative painting techniques focused on objectifying the content of the unconscious mind.

Methods and Materials: This research adopted a qualitative approach within an interpretive paradigm and employed grounded theory methodology. Data were collected through library and documentary studies in psychoanalysis and aesthetics, along with qualitative content analysis of selected artworks. Purposive sampling was used to select both artistic works and theoretical texts. Data collection tools included systematic note-taking, artwork analysis worksheets, and comprehensive review of psychoanalytic and aesthetic literature. Textual and visual data were analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding combined with semiotic analysis. The credibility of findings was ensured through data triangulation and expert review by specialists in psychoanalysis and art.

Findings: Data analysis revealed core categories and key concepts regarding the mechanisms of the unconscious in creative processes. The final model highlights the dynamic interaction between conscious and unconscious mental layers, the symbolic mediation of suppressed content, and creative strategies such as automatic painting, brainstorming, and techniques to bypass conscious censorship. This framework offers a systematic interpretive tool for understanding and enhancing creative expression in painting.

Conclusion: The study concludes that an informed engagement with unconscious processes can lead to innovative approaches in art education and practice, empowering artists to deepen their creativity and express complex inner emotions through visual art.
