Predicting the Internet Addiction based on Digital Literacy and Interpersonal Relations in Teenagers Girls Addicted to Online Games

Objective: Online gaming is one of the most attractive and exciting activities that can cause internet addiction. As a result, the present research was conducted with the aim of predicting internet addiction based on digital literacy and interpersonal relations in teenagers girls addicted to online games.
Methodology: This study was applied in terms of purpose and cross-sectional from correlation type in terms of implementation method. The research population was all teenager girls addicted to online games who referred to counseling and psychological services centers of Ahvaz city in 2024 year. The sample size considering possible dropouts was 120 people, who were selected after reviewing the inclusion criteria by purposive sampling method. To collect data were used the online game questionnaire (Wang and Chang, 2002), internet addiction questionnaire (Young, 1998), digital literacy questionnaire (Voda et al., 2022) and peer relations dysfunction scale (Hudson, 1990). The data of the present study were analyzed with using the Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with enter model methods in SPSS-26 software.
Findings: The findings of this research showed that there was a significant negative correlation between digital literacy with internet addiction in teenager girls addicted to online games and a significant positive correlation between interpersonal relations dysfunction with internet addiction in them (P<0.01). Also, the variables of digital literacy and interpersonal relations dysfunction were able to significantly predict 33% of the changes of internet addiction in teenager girls addicted to online games, which in this prediction, the contribution of interpersonal relations dysfunction in compared to digital literacy was greater and more effective (P<0.001).
Conclusion: According to the findings of the present research, in order to reduce internet addiction in teenager girls addicted to online games through educational workshops can be used to provide the basis for increasing digital literacy and reducing interpersonal relations dysfunction.
