Compilation an Integrated Protocol of Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Compassion-Based Therapy for University Students

Abstract

Objective: There are many methods for improving psychological characteristics, and today in compared to the past, the importance and application of integrated protocols are emphasized more. As a result, the present study was conducted with the aim of compliation an integrated protocol of dialectical behavior therapy and compassion-based therapy for university students.

Methodology: The present research was applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in terms of implementation method. The research population was professors of psychology and counseling departments of Mashhad township in 2024 year, which 14 people of whom were selected as samples according to the principle of theoretical saturation with the purposive sampling method. The used instrument in this research was a semi-structured interview with 5 questions from experts about the integrated protocol of dialectical behavior therapy and compassion-based therapy, that their validity was confirmed by the triangulation method and their reliability was obtained by the Cohen's kappa coefficient method 0.65. It should be noted that after designing the aforementioned structure were designed for it separately for every 10 sessions the title, goal, activities and homework. The data obtained from the interview were analyzed with using methods of theme analysis and content validity ratio and content validity index coefficients in MAXQDA-2020 software.

Findings: The results of this research showed that the integrated protocol of dialectical behavior therapy and compassion-based therapy for university students was designed for 10 sessions of 90 minute and each session had its own specific title, goal, activities and homework. In addition, the content validity ratio and content validity index for the integrated protocol of dialectical behavior therapy and compassion-based therapy for university students were calculated 0.79 and 0.84, respectively.

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, an integrated protocol of dialectical behavior therapy and compassion-based therapy for university students can be used alongside other treatment protocols by psychologists, counselors and therapists as an effective method to improve psychological characteristics in various groups including university students.
