Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of schema therapy on depression and self-esteem in students who have experienced love trauma. Methods and Materials: The present study, in terms of purpose, was applied, and in terms of methodology, it was a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest and a control group. The statistical population included all students at Islamic Azad University, Malard Branch, who had experienced love trauma. From this population, 30 participants were selected using voluntary sampling and were randomly assigned into two groups: experimental (n = 15) and control (n = 15). To collect data, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory, and the Schema Therapy Protocol developed by Young et al. (2003) were used. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 26, and a univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was employed to test the research hypotheses. Findings: The results showed that in the posttest phase, the mean depression scores of participants in the schema therapy program had decreased. Moreover, in the posttest, participants in the experimental group—unlike those in the control group—showed an increase in self-esteem scores. As observed, there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups for both variables (p < .05). Conclusion: Therefore, the findings of the study indicated that schema therapy leads to improvements in depression and self-esteem among students who have experienced love trauma.
