Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between parenting patterns and psychological well-being of parents with Internet addiction in female high school students in District 12 of Tehran. The study was a correlational study and the statistical population of the study was all female high school students in District 12 of Tehran. The sample of this study consisted of 220 students who were selected based on multi-stage cluster sampling. The instruments used in the study were the Internet Addiction Questionnaire (Young, 1998), Parenting Styles (Baumrind, 1991), and Psychological Well-Being (Reif, 1980). The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (multiple regression and Pearson correlation coefficient) and using Spss-V24 software. The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between Internet addiction and authoritarian parenting style. There is a negative relationship between Internet addiction and authoritative style, and there is no significant relationship between Internet addiction and permissive style. The results also showed that there is a negative and significant correlation between personal growth, positive connection, purposefulness, and self-acceptance with Internet addiction in female students. However, there is no significant correlation between independence and mastery of the environment with Internet addiction in female students. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of paying attention to parenting patterns and psychological well-being of parents in preventing Internet addiction among female students and provides suggestions for improving the situation of families and reducing the risks of inappropriate Internet use.
