Abstract

Objective: This research was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of mindfulness intervention on self-regulation skills and psychological well-being of homeless children.

Research method: This research is a semi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test research design with experimental and control groups. The statistical population consisted of orphaned children aged 10 to 12 years old in Sabzevar who are covered by welfare. Among all the orphaned children, 30 people were selected purposefully and based on the research entry criteria, and they were divided into two control and experimental groups by a simple random method. To collect information, Pintrich and de Groot self-regulated learning guides questionnaire (Self-regulated learning guides questionnaire: this questionnaire by Pintrich and de Groot (1990), Sterling Children's Well-Being Scale (SCWBS) was used. In this research, data analysis was done in two parts. The first part was dedicated to descriptive findings, in which indicators such as mean, standard deviation, percentage and frequency were used. The second part was related to inferential findings, in which multivariate covariance analysis was used to analyze hypotheses in the statistical program SPSS version 26.

Results: The research findings showed that after controlling for the effect of the pre-test, the difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the two groups is significant for the variable of self-regulated learning, and the mean scores of the experimental group in the variable of self-regulated learning are also significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). The difference in the pre-test scores of the two groups for the psychological well-being variable is not significant (P=0.926). However, the difference in the mean scores of the psychological well-being post-test in the two experimental and control groups is significant (P=0.035).

Conclusion: The results of the present study show the importance of mindfulness intervention in influencing self-regulation learning variables and psychological well-being in homeless children of Sabzevar city.
